It does not include Speakers, Pro Keyboard, Pro Mouse nor System Cd's.

The G5 coming soon? But not from Motorola.....

During the Microprocessor Forum 2002, IBM will announce a new kind of processors, according to web page of the microprocessor forum, Peter Sandon (Senior Processor Architect, Power PC Organization, IBM Microelectronics) will give a conference about the following subject : "Breaking Through Compute Intensive Barriers - IBM's New 64-bit PowerPC Microprocessor ".

Here is the summary of the conference : "IBM is disclosing the technical details of a new 64-bit PowerPC microprocessor designed for desktops and entry-level servers. Based on the award winning Power4 design, this processor is an 8-way superscalar design that fully supports Symmetric MultiProcessing. The processor is further enhanced by a vector processing unit implementing over 160 specialized vector instructions and implements a system interface capable of up to 6.4GB/s."

It just seems that the new processor will have some sort of Altivec Unit (160 vector instructions, instead of the 162 instructions of Altivec), and could be the reason why Steve Jobs said that Apple will soon have choices in terms of processors.

Radeon 9000 in a Cube?

A lot of our readers are asking us if the Radeon 9000 would fit in a Cube. Unfortunately, the answer is no. One of our readers sent us a message about that topic :

" Actually, I got an e-mail from ATI stating that it will not fit. This was further reinforced by a posting at macgamer.com... Hope this helps with your FAQ. Not sure if it's just too big or what. That's what I assume. Perhaps someone will get the guts and try to see if it fits themselves and whether it can be modified to fit. Thanks". -Daniel S

An answer from Sonnet abouth the Ghz card

Here is the message we sent to Sonnet in order to know if the Ghz card will work with the Cube (it did not seem to be the case when they first posted information about that card on their Web site) :

"I have noticed that you say that only the 800 Mhz is supported for the Cube? Does this mean that the 1 Ghz won't work in the Cube? Is it a physical problem (the card is too big)? Or a heat problem? Or can it work but you just don't support it....? "

And here is their answer:

" Both 800MHz and 1 GHz will be compatible with a Cube Installation Kit, which we highly recommended to be installed professionally. "

New Powermacs?

The French Web Site MacBidouille has posted some pics of the next PowerMac G4 (G5?). The white color seems to come from the flash of the camera. The new PowerMac will probably have a Grey and silver color. It will have four hard drive bays and 2 5"1/4 bays, DDR-RAM. The processor model and speed is unknown.

We don't know if this is a fake or not, but it seems real. MacBidouille also posted some pictures of the motherboard which seems similar to the red motherboard seen on e-bay a while ago.

We'll probably know more in August. Stay tuned.

Cube-Zone coupon on Sonnet cards : $10 off

Our partner, Deal Express, has an exclusive offer for the Cube-Zone readers. They are selling a Cube enclosure for $129 (The product ID is 3818).This offer is only for Cube-Zone readers. they won't sell those enclosures to anybody else. That's why you have to use the "Buy it" button, and write "cubezone" in the comments field (yes the comments field, not the coupon field).Hurry, there are only a few of them! They also still have some enclosures + chassis for $249 instead of $299 (check the Cube parts tracker to know how to obtain that).

Apple discussion forums under maintenance : sign of a new product coming?

Apple discussion forums are under maintenance. here is the message that you can see if you try to use them : "Apple Discussions will be undergoing maintenance and may be slow for short periods on Monday, July 15th. "

Why would Apple do a maintenance to its discussions just before Mac World New York? That may well be the proof that we were waiting for, I mean that a new kind of product is coming. Maybe a mysterious digital device.... They have to add a new category to their discussions pages. That may be a reason to do a maintenance today.

That may just be us...but we do think something is going on. We know what some of you will say : they are insane..it is just a regular maintenance. Just a few hours to go and we will know.... Let's hope we are right....
