Apple Expo coverage : the entrance of the Expo.

Before the Expo starts, here are some pictures of the entrance of the exhibition hall which is located Porte de Versailles.

No new hardware at the Expo? We don't think so.....

Several web sites are currently claiming that there will be no new hardware announced tomorrow. Our sources think those sites are wrong. According to them, there will probably be updated PowerBooks and/or iBooks (stop-gap updates, before the rumored dual PowerBooks).... and an iPhone.

We really don't know if this is true, but our sources have been right in the past. Let's think about it :

  • Steve Jobs will be in Paris. His keynote will take place before Phill Schiller speaks. That may mean an announcement.
  • The keynote is September 10th. Just one day before September 11th. Let's face it : the newspaper will have articles about New York, not about an iPhone or new PowerBooks.
  • The Apple Store has been unavailable today : that indicates something new is coming....
  • Steve Jobs has to announce something after last year's cancellation.... or maybe he will just offer a free copy of Jaguar to people who attend the keynote... (Well this is only my dream...)
  • Some web Sites such as ThinkSecret say "Apple sources confirmed that economic and sales conditions are becoming increasingly important in determining new product releases" : sure...when you're not selling a old product well, what is the best way to sell it better? produce and sell a new one...
  • One last thing... We went to the Expo today. We couldn't see the Apple booth, but we have seen some parts of the Expo...and we have not seen a lot of PowerBooks....

Stay tuned...the answer is coming tomorrow and the Cube-Zone will have a full coverage of the keynote and the Expo!

Apple Expo Paris coverage : iMacs invade Paris!

Paris is now invaded by flat-panel iMacs. One can see hundreds of ads everywhere in the streets. Those ads are different from the ones that we told you about yesterday. You can now read on them :

  • "Partagez des documents et e-mails avec tous les PC" ("Share your documents and e-mails with PCs")
  • "Connectez n'importe quel appareil numérique" ("Connect any digital device")
  • "Utilisez Word, Excel et PowerPoint" ("Use Word, Excel and PowerPoint")

Apple Expo Paris coverage : pictures of the rumored Apple Store in Paris.

One of the rumored announcements of Apple Expo is an Apple Store in Paris. Here are some pictures of what is supposed to be the first Apple Store in Europe. This place which is located near the Champs Elysées is quite big (7000 m2), and still empty. However, it could probably open quite soon... Stay tuned....

Apple Expo Paris coverage : the "Palais des Congrès" is ready for Steve Jobs' keynote

Steve Jobs' keynote is going to take place at the "Palais des Congrès" in Paris. Yesterday, we told you that were no Apple ads there. They appeared today. And they are huge!

Apple Expo Paris coverage : Paris getting ready for the Expo.

Paris is getting ready for the Apple Expo. Giant ads are appearing everywhere in the subway stations. On the ads, it is written "Découvrez pourquoi votre prochain PC devrait être un Mac" ("Discover why your next PC should be a Mac"). It is the French version of the switch ads.

Some smaller ads are also appearing everywhere in the streets, with the following words "Créez des films, CD, DVD" ("Create movies, CD, DVD").

The "Palais des Congrès", where Steve Jobs' keynote is going to take place next week, does not have any of the huge Apple ads it used to have two years ago. However, that may change before the end of the week.

Stay tuned. It is only the beginning of our coverage. This Expo is going to be a huge one (did you say PowerBooks and....one more thing...)!

Answers from Powerlogix

Robert from Powerlogix, when asked about the possibility of using a dual 1 ghz in the Cube, replied : "we are only recommending 800 at this time, we don't want to blow people's power supplies. Later chips from Motorola will draw less power, which means a dual 1gig or even faster is a possibility".

I guess that could be an explanation for the huge power supplies in the new towers.....

New Dual 800 Mhz and 1 ghz Powerlogix upgrades announced.

As expected, some new dual upgrades have been announced by Powerlogix. If you bought a single 800 Mhz or single 1 ghz, don't be disappointed, the PowerForce Trade-Up Program, allows you to trade up you current Powerlogix card for a new dual card for the difference in the retail price of the two cards.

The new cards are the following :

PowerForce Dual G4 Series 100 at 800MHz for $799

PowerForce Dual G4 Series 100 at 1 GHz for $1199

PowerForce Dual G4 Series 133 at 867MHz for $799

PowerForce Dual G4 Series 133 at 1 GHz for $1199

The press release can be found here.

Dual Ghz processor upgrades to be announced before the end of the week?

We just had some information about a new dual 1 Ghz upgrade coming from a well known upgrade company. We won't tell you which one (you might guess.... this company already produces a single 1 Ghz upgrade for Powermacs and Cubes), but an announcement is coming today or tomorrow. That is really good news. The dual ghz cards will probably be too hot for the Cube at the beginning. However, dual 800 mhz will be a great upgrade for our favorite little computer.

Stay tuned!

Powerlogix cards cheaper ($687) and with 2megs of L3 cache

Powerlogix has updated its Cube cards. They now have a 2 megs L3 cache instead of their former 1 meg L3 cache. Those cards are available now (the Sonnet cards are not available yet)

Another advantage of those cards is that PowerLogix announced the PowerForce Trade-Up Program, which allows customers to select the affordable speed upgrade of their choice, and trade up later to a faster processor. For example, a customer might decide to purchase a PowerForce G4 700 MHz Series 100 for their PowerMac G4 AGP now, and may trade up to any faster model at a later time. The Trade-Up program allows the customer to trade up for the difference in the retail price of the two cards. Details about that program will be available soon.

Our partner Macs4all has the lowest price we have seen so far : $687 for the 1 Ghz card. Shipping starts at $5 for UPS ground. The 800 mhz card is $445.
